NEW YORK COMIC CON 2013

NYCC starts today! I'll be there all weekend long, doing sketches and drinking coffee. Come by and see me- Artist Alley is in the North Pavillion of the Javits Center, and I'll at table J-13. Here's the floor plan and where I'll be:

I'll have two new prints for sale this year in limited quantities, so get 'em while they're hot!

The Karai/Foot Clan one is by me, and the Thundercats one is me with beautiful colors by Ian Herring. I'll also have lots of original art from Shadow Clan and Karai for sale, as well as sketchbooks and comics and stuff like that.

On Sunday I'll be at the Aspen Comics panel and another panel that hasn't been announced yet. But it might have something to do with this...

LEGEND OF THE SHADOW CLAN Artist Proof sketch covers

I got to keep some of the Shadow Clan #1 sketch cover editions to use for commissions, etc. and here are some examples of what they look like. I've been putting a little more work into these Artist Proof versions. I wanted them to be a little more special than the standard sketch covers. Inks with some Copic grey tones and a splash of color. I still have a few of these blanks left, you can contact me csmitharts@gmail.com for info & prices if you'd like one with some original art (of your choosing) on it.

LEGEND OF THE SHADOW CLAN #4 Preview

Issue 4 is out tomorrow, and I'm excited for people to see it! This is my favorite one yet. It has 4 covers that connect to form one big image featuring all the major players, so you can choose your favorite or collect them all.
Here's a B&W preview:

Batman Beyond samples

I did some Batman Beyond sample pages a while ago. Here they are:

Those pages were my second draft. With my first pass I went to full inks. Here they are next to the pencils:

The editor thought the inks were too sketchy and didn't fit into the style already established in the Beyond comics, and he was right. So I did them over as just pencils, and it gave me the rare opportunity to fix some of the things I wasn't happy with in the first pages. I also changed the armor design of the Vigilante character to something more clunky and less sleek based on the editorial notes I got from round 1.

LEGEND OF THE SHADOW CLAN Sketch Covers

Here are all of the LOTSC sketch covers that went out to retailers as part of Aspen's incentive program for issue 1. There are 100 in total. I did them each pretty quickly at about 15-20 min each, but they still seemed to take forever. 100 is a big number.

There was initially a mix-up at the printer where the covers were mistakenly printed on a glossy paper stock, and before the problem was corrected I had already made my way through a big chunk of them. The glossy texture was almost impossible to do any underdrawing on, but they reacted to the inkwashes in a pretty cool way. It's hard to tell from these scans, but in person the difference between the glossy and cardstock covers is really noticeable.

Keep an eye out for these at your local comic shop! If you can't get one there, I do have a handful of "Artist Proof" blank covers that I'll be getting to soon and I'll post details here of how you can get one...
